If you’re familiar with dealing with constipation, then you would know that it is definitely not an enjoyable experience. Being constipated is a sign that the body just isn’t quite getting the nutrients it needs. In order for our bathroom routine to be considered “healthy”, it has been determined that we need to pass solids at a minimum of 1 to 3 times per day. Any less than that is an indication that you’re constipated. Poop is the human body’s waste and it is essential to get it out of the body. If it is not extracted properly, then you will be left with a back up in your intestinal tract that could pose much more serious health complications down the line.

If you’re tired of being constipated and want to figure out a way to treat your constipation at home rather than going to see a doctor for the problem (which is understandable, this is some touchy stuff) then here are some constipation home remedies that are tried and true. You an also use some of these as a regular part of your lifestyle to keep yourself from getting constipated again in the future.

Here is a list of constipation home remedies:

* Fiber

Fiber has got to be the most obvious way to help get things, or more specifically our bowels, moving. Fill up on fiber rich foods such as beans, papaya, berries, broccoli, apples, nuts and potatoes (just not fries though). It is also a common misconception that bananas cause constipation, and this isn’t entirely true. When bananas are left to fully ripen (when they start getting brown spots), bananas are actually a great way to help keep your bowels regular.

* Prunes

This has got to be the oldest method in the book. Prunes are notorious for helping treat constipation, especially when it comes to kids and elderly people. What you can do is drink 1 glass of prune juice in the morning and 1 at night to help keep your bowels regular. Alternatively, you can also eat prunes instead of drinking the juice.

* Probiotics

Probiotics are what feed the good bacteria living in out gut. It may be beneficial for you to start taking a probiotic supplement to help regulate that bacteria. If you want to naturally incorporate probiotics into your diet, then naturally fermented foods are a good place to start.Sauerkraut has to be one of the best ways to get in healthy probiotics.

* Flax-seed oil

Oil in general is essential for the body and keep everything running smoothly. Ingesting flax-seed oil is a simple way to ease bowel movements. What it does is “oils things up” by coating the intestines. A common suggestion is to add 1 tablespoon of flax-seed oil to a glass or orange juice. You’ll be cleared out in no time.

* Coffee

As you already know, coffee is a natural stimulant for the digestive system. Don’t overdo it though because too much coffee can actually cause constipation since it can dehydrate your body, which it doesn’t want.

If you’ve been dealing with constipation and really want to treat it at home, then these natural home remedies for constipation should do just the trick.
